Mount Pleasant sits on Charleston Harbor and Shem Creek; the closest ocean beaches are on neighboring Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms. Conditions differ by beach, so check posted flags, lifeguard instructions and current state swimming advisories before going in.
Swimming advisories
The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services samples beach water for bacteria during the swim season and posts swimming advisories for affected sections. An advisory is a recommendation not to swim there, not a beach closure. Check the posting date; this site does not infer a current advisory from old results.
